Compact rail-mounted thermal-magnetic circuit breaker

E-T-A Circuit Breakers announced the most recent addition to its din rail mount product line – the 4220-T compact rail-mounted thermal-magnetic circuit breaker. With a width of only 12.5 mm, the 4220-T allows maximum utilization of cabinet space in automated equipment in a wide range of industries. The use of integral selective reliable protection against overloads and short circuits in electrical systems makes a significant contribution to the reduction of such risks. The E-T-A track-mountable series 4220-T is ideally suited to the task and packs a powerful punch within an ultra-slim housing of just 12.5 mm.

Trailing cables, blocked motors, defective peripherals – these are all unacceptable risks in modern factory automation and process control as they are potential dangers, both to personnel and equipment. Single pole thermal-magnetic circuit breaker with high rupture capacity to UL 489 (5 kA), EN/IEC 60934 (6kA) and UL 1077 (5 kA). With toggle actuation, positively trip-free mechanism, a choice of characteristic curves and a wide range of current ratings in finely graded steps from 0.1A through 32 A. Auxiliary contacts (make or break contacts) are optionally available.

Track-mountable design, width only 12.5 mm. Ease of wiring by means of an integral busbar concept: line entry busbar LINE+ and signal busbars/signal jumpers. An integral busbar design – sophisticated, but easily manageable – serves for power distribution, configures signalling, and greatly facilitates the connection of multipole circuit breakers. Whether a single pole base unit is required, or a double pole or three pole configuration, the electrical performance and switching capability of the slim yet robust series 4220-T will never fail to impress.

Specifications and Approvals
The single pole thermal-magnetic 4220-T is available in current ratings from 0.1… 32A and has a selection of four different trip characteristics (F1, F2, M1, and T1). Current ratings in finely graded steps from 0.1 A through 32 A ensure overcurrent protection for loads and their supply lines can be optimised, while 5 sets of trip characteristics are available to suit different load conditions. The range of versions allows exact specification of continuous loads and inrush currents, load circuits and cable cross sections specific to individual customer requirements. Approved to UL 489 (AC 120 V; DC 60 V) and UL 1077 (AC 277 V; DC 60 V) the 4220-T has a rupture capacity of 5kA. Integral signal contacts (N/O or N/C) are available and indicate circuit interruptions via a PLC. It is designed for optimized wiring by means of an integral busbar (line entry busbar LINE+ and signal busbars/signal jumpers).

Features and Benefits

  • Professional overcurrent protection reduces spurious disconnections, stoppages and downtime.
  • Enhanced safety during installation, normal operation and maintenance through protection against brush contact and disconnection of the line entry potential.
  • Flexible configuration and connection by means of plug-in type busbars for line entry and busbars/bridges for signalling.
  • The track-mountable design facilitates extension of the safety concept throughout the control cabinet.
  • Screw terminals for all connections and UL 489 approval ensure suitability for international market requirements.
  • Space-saving installation and narrow profile (12.5 mm) contribute to size and cost savings in control cabinets.

Applications
The 4220-T’s high rupture capacity of 5000A makes it an appropriate solution for battery buffered applications in the chemical industry. Mainly suitable for DC applications, the thermal-magnetic circuit breaker is also appropriate for the protection of power supplies, equipment and cables in centralized control systems and in decentralized installations serving automation, petro-chemical, power plant, steel industry and similar industrial applications.
